We have always stated that our revolutionary new HALO helmet offers 80% better protection than other products on the market. The only comparator at present are scrum caps. At no point will these items ever promise to offer protection against concussion; it simply isn’t possible for them to do so. That is not what they are designed for and nor would they ever claim to do so. We purely use them as a benchmark as this is the only measure we can use.
Scrum caps have been a long standing feature of both codes of rugby for many years. We understand what they do – protect external areas of the head from superficial damage.
Our HALO is not a scrum cap. This is next generation technology specifically designed to offer greater insurance against head injuries and impacts to the brain and skull. Standard EVA foams that exist in standard scrum caps are not what we offer. This is our own bespoke, individually developed technology that is completely different to anything else available currently. This is not an “expensive scrum cap” – this is a standalone helmet that is for use not just in the scrum, but in open play. It is designed to help protect against all hits, whether in the open or at close quarters, through a tackle or other secondary contact. We will never claim to offer 100% protection against concussion – no-one can do this. We always reiterate that technique and proper coaching is at least as important as any equipment you may wear, and furthermore that “safety first” should always be the message regarding head injuries – if in any doubt at all, come off the pitch and take proper medical advice.
